How to choose an Amazon ads tool for KDP books
Before you let any software touch your Amazon ads, ask what it's allowed to change, how far, and what stops it. A good tool answers those in plain numbers. These are the seven questions we'd ask, followed by BookAdsAI's own answers so you can hold us to the same standard. BookAdsAI does not guarantee sales or profit, and it isn't part of Amazon.
Seven questions to ask any Amazon ads tool
1. What does it connect to? A tool that manages ads needs the Amazon Advertising API. It shouldn't need your KDP password, and it shouldn't be editing your book listing. Find out which marketplaces it covers before you pay.
2. What can it change without asking? Bids, budgets, new keywords, new campaigns? Get the list. If the answer is basically anything, that's a lot of trust to hand over on day one.
3. How far can a bid move, and is there a ceiling? A rule like 'at most 10% per run, never above a fixed amount' is something you can check. 'Our AI optimizes bids' isn't.
4. Is there a hard daily spend limit per book? Find out what happens when it's hit and how fast. Most tools act on Amazon's reports, which arrive after the spend, so nobody can honestly promise to stop a click in the same second.
5. How much data does it want before it acts? Changing a bid off one or two clicks is mostly noise. Ask for the minimum.
6. Can you see every change it made? You want a log with the cap pauses, the bid moves, and the things it chose not to do.
7. What does it cost, and is ad spend included? Software fees and Amazon click charges are separate bills almost everywhere. Check that you can cancel yourself without emailing anyone.
Red flags worth walking away from
Promises of a set ACOS, a stated profit, or a ranking. Nobody controls Amazon's auction or your reader's wallet. Be careful too with tools that switch on automatic targeting or launch new campaigns for you by default, or that 'harvest' keywords from search terms with zero clicks. None of those things is wrong in itself, but you should be the one who turns them on.
Also watch for pricing tiers that sound like they buy better results. Ask what a higher plan actually changes in the rules. Sometimes the honest answer is nothing.
BookAdsAI's answers to the same seven questions
It connects one United States Amazon Ads profile with the advertising::campaign_management scope, which is the Advertising API. It doesn't edit KDP listings, prices, or files. It changes only two things, and only on books you set Live and campaigns you put on that book's allowlist. It pauses those campaigns when reported spend hits the book's daily cap, which starts at $25. And it moves bids. A target needs at least 5 reported clicks and some spend, the step is at most 10% per run, and it won't push a bid above $2.50 or below $0.20. Above 40% ACOS it steps down, and under 15% it steps up.
It won't launch Recovery campaigns (a campaign named like Launch Recovery is refused even when it's on the allowlist), and it won't choose AUTO_FOR_SALES targeting by default. It won't add keywords at zero clicks or edit a campaign that's not on the list. The cap runs on reported spend after the daily report lands, so it isn't a same-second stop. Every pause, bid step, skip, and refusal goes into the book's change log. Starter is $29 a month, Pro $49, and Agency $99. All three run the same Autopilot, none of them includes Amazon ad spend, and you cancel in the Stripe customer portal from Settings.
When BookAdsAI isn't the right pick
If your campaigns are on a marketplace outside the US, this version can't run them. If you want a tool that builds campaigns, finds new search terms, or writes ads for you, we don't do that either. And if you'd rather adjust every bid by hand, the Amazon Ads console already does that well, and you don't need us.
What's the most important question to ask an Amazon ads tool?
What it's allowed to change, and the hard limits on each change. If a tool can't tell you its bid ceiling and its spend stop in numbers, you can't check its work.
Should an ads tool ask for my KDP login?
Ad management runs on the Amazon Advertising API, which is a separate account from KDP. BookAdsAI uses Login with Amazon with the advertising scope only, and it never asks for a KDP password.
Do ads tools usually include the ad spend in the price?
Usually not. With BookAdsAI the $29, $49, or $99 monthly subscription is software only, and Amazon bills your Ads account for clicks separately.
Can any tool guarantee a lower ACOS?
No honest one can. BookAdsAI does not guarantee ACOS, sales, royalties, or profit. It applies fixed rules and logs what it did.
Use BookAdsAI
Create an account, then connect a US Amazon Ads profile from Settings. New books stay Paused until you set a daily spend cap, confirm the allowlist, and turn that book Live.
Profit = royalties − ad spend, from reports that landed. Cancel in Stripe yourself.
