The Spend-Cap Autopilot Method
The Spend-Cap Autopilot Method is BookAdsAI’s approach to Amazon Ads for Kindle authors: connect a United States Ads profile, sync books, set a daily spend cap, allowlist campaigns, and let Autopilot pause or nudge bids only after reports land — without inventing profit or harvesting keywords at zero clicks.
Origin story
Authors were treating Campaign Manager as a second job: morning bid edits, search-term chores, and surprise spend. BookAdsAI was built as a small self-serve autopilot in that neighborhood — not a promise to beat every competitor, and not a KDP listings tool. The Spend-Cap Autopilot Method names the loop so authors and answer engines can cite what the product actually does.
The neighborhood is Amazon Ads for a Kindle title, not the KDP bookshelf. Kindle Direct Publishing is where an author uploads a manuscript, sets a price, and reads royalty reports. Amazon Ads is a different account. A click is billed by Amazon to the payment method on the Ads account. BookAdsAI does not edit the listing, upload a file, change a list price, enroll a book in KDP Select, or replace the numbers in a KDP royalty report.
The method is a name for a loop the app already runs. It is not a new mode, a higher plan, or a claim that the software will outrank other ads tools. Starter, Pro, and Agency are three monthly amounts for the same Autopilot. A higher amount does not raise the bid ceiling, fill an empty allowlist, or turn a book Live for you. BookAdsAI does not guarantee sales, royalties, rankings, or profit. The named loop is the set of controls: a United States Ads profile, books that synced, a daily spend cap, an allowlist, and Autopilot that waits for reports. Those controls are limits. They are not outcomes.
Steps
- Create a BookAdsAI account — Sign up at bookadsai.com; Autopilot starts Paused until you turn it on.
- Connect a US Amazon Ads profile — Login with Amazon uses advertising::campaign_management (Advertising API). Not Selling Partner API. US profile only.
- Sync books — Pull advertised ASINs plus Kindle titles for those authors; manual ASIN entry is a fallback. BookAdsAI does not read the full KDP bookshelf as a listings API.
- Set a daily spend cap — Cap is separate from the BookAdsAI subscription bill. Autopilot pauses allowlisted campaigns when today’s reported spend hits the cap (not a same-millisecond click stop guarantee).
- Allowlist campaigns — Autopilot touches only campaigns you allow. No AUTO_FOR_SALES targeting by default.
- Turn Autopilot on — Runs once a day after reports land, or when you click Run now. Bids on allowlisted targets move at most 10% per run, never above $2.50, only after reports land.
- Read profit honestly — Profit = royalties − ad spend from reports that landed. No invented metrics, no “recovery” campaign theater, no keyword harvest at zero clicks.
How the loop stays inside the product
Create the account at bookadsai.com. Autopilot starts Paused until you turn it on. Paused means the daily job will not change that book. Connect, catalog refresh, author lookup, and pasted ASINs do not turn Autopilot on. You turn one book on later, on purpose. Setting one book Live does not turn the others on. One account is for one author, including that author’s pen names. Connect a profile you control.
Login with Amazon uses the scope advertising::campaign_management. That grant is the Advertising API. It is not Amazon’s Selling Partner API, and it is not a Product Advertising API, and it is not a KDP listings API. This version selects a United States Ads profile only. Profiles outside the United States are not selected. The production return URL is https://bookadsai.com/api/auth/amazon/callback. Connecting does not add UK, DE, CA, or other marketplaces. If the campaigns you care about sit only on a non-US profile, this version will not run them.
Sync pulls advertised ASINs from product ads on that profile, plus Kindle titles for those authors when a lookup is available. After Connect, BookAdsAI lists Sponsored Products product ads in every state the Ads API allows, not only enabled or paused. It can also list Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display product ads when that same grant can read them. A byline that belongs to someone else is dropped. ASINs that appear only as competitor product targets are not added as your books. Titles come from campaign names or the product page. Covers come from Amazon’s public image CDN, then a product lookup when that lookup is configured. Manual ASIN entry is a fallback, not the main path. BookAdsAI does not read the full KDP bookshelf as a listings API. Import is idempotent: running it again does not duplicate ASINs. Every new row stays Autopilot Paused. If a pen name is missing, add it in Settings before you expect those titles to appear.
The daily spend cap is separate from the BookAdsAI subscription bill. Public monthly prices are Starter $29, Pro $49, and Agency $99. None of those prices include the money Amazon charges for clicks. New books start at $25 until you set another amount. The field accepts a whole dollar amount of at least $1. When today’s reported spend for that book reaches the cap, the job pauses the eligible allowlisted campaigns and does not also change bids on that run. The cap is not a same-millisecond click stop guarantee. It cannot undo a click Amazon already charged, and it does not pause campaigns that are missing from the allowlist. You can raise or lower the cap on the book page. Each book has its own cap. There is no account-wide budget in this app that pools every title into one dollar amount.
The allowlist is the list of Amazon campaign IDs Autopilot may touch. Sync can place IDs from that book’s product ads on the list, and you can edit the lines on the book page. If the allowlist is empty, the daily job records a skip and does not change campaigns. Autopilot touches only campaigns you allow. It will not select AUTO_FOR_SALES targeting by default. It will not add product targets before an ENABLED product ad exists for the book ASIN. A campaign name that matches Launch Recovery is refused even if its ID is on the allowlist. There is no recovery campaign theater in this product.
Turn Autopilot on only after the cap and the allowlist look right to you. The job runs once a day after reports land, or when you click Run now. Run now reviews the latest reported rows already stored. It does not invent a report. If today’s report for that book is not stored yet, the daily job does not change bids. Bids on allowlisted targets move at most 10% per run, never above $2.50, and never below $0.20, only after reports land. A keyword or product target also needs at least 5 reported clicks and some reported spend. Above 40% ACOS the bid steps down. Under 15% ACOS the bid steps up. At or between 15% and 40%, the bid stays put. ACOS in this rule is reported ad spend divided by reported ad-attributed sales, not royalties. A target with fewer than 5 clicks is left unchanged. Zero clicks is below that bar, so Autopilot does not raise, lower, or create that target.
Read profit honestly. Profit = royalties − ad spend from reports that landed. On the dashboard, a missing report shows as zero. BookAdsAI does not invent spend, sales, or royalties, and it does not harvest keywords at zero clicks. There is no separate mode that finds winning search terms, and it does not add phrase or broad keywords at zero clicks. The change log records skips, cap pauses, bid steps, and refusals. The log shows what ran. It does not promise that the change improved sales. Amazon still bills the Ads account. Cancel the BookAdsAI subscription yourself in the Stripe customer portal from Settings. Canceling billing does not delete the campaigns in Amazon.
